Two Steps Verification Feature In Gmail

What Is Meant By Two Steps Verification?

Two Steps Verification which is also known as Two Factor Authentication is a feature that has been offered by the Team Google to strengthen the security of your account even more.

With the help of this feature you can protect your account from mischievous persons trying to hack your account or to get into your account without your consent.

Its a double identity process and by turning on this feature you will be asked to enter your password for signing into your account as well as a contact method (which is also known as security info).

Now even if some one cracks your password they will still not be able to get to your account until or unless they get access to your security info.

Getting Your Hands On This Feature:

Once you turn on this two-step verification feature, you will be sent a specific security code on either your linked email address, your phone number or any other authorised application whenever you sign in from some other device which is not considered to be reliable for your account.

However, when this feature is turned off you will only have to put your security codes and that too occasionally when Gmail feels that your Account is less secured.

Elements Required For Setting up This Feature:

All you need is an email address, a working phone number and an authorised Gmail application for setting up this feature on your device. However, the Team Google recommends usage of two different email addresses so that in case you loose one of your linked email address, you do not end up loosing your account permanently.

Thus, whenever your account is accessed from an unknown device or an unknown place, Gmail will send the authorised person a security code to make sure that the account is not being mischievously used by some one else other than its holder.

Steps Required For Turning On This Feature:

Following are the steps which can be used to turn this two-step verification feature ON as well as OFF on your devices:

  • Open the official website of accounts.google.com. Once you are landed on the page, you will then be asked to sign in with your Gmail account by entering your email address and password.
  • Now look at the Navigation Panel given at the left side of the page and click on the Security icon given here.
  • By clicking on the Security icon will take you to the Google Panel where you will see a highlighted option 2-Step Verification, click on it.
  • Lastly, you will be asked whether you want to turn this feature ON or OFF under 2-Step Verification text box. For turning it on you have to click on Set Up 2- Step Verification and if you want to turn it off you can simple choose Turn Off 2-Step Verification.

By following the steps given above you can easily enable or disabled the two step verification feature in your Gmail Account.
